MacKay Models was formed in 1976, by husband and wife team Ken and Jeanette, when Ken decided to break away from Civil Engineering and started the business in the Old Booking Hall at Paisley's Gilmour Street Station.

At this stage the shop was supplied all sorts of models with model railways, always closest to Ken's heart, being the speciality.

In 1999 with a view of taking things easier, MacKay models moved from its previous location, which has since been turned back into a station entrance, to the old Embroidery Mill, probably the oldest surviving building in the huge Anchor Mill complex that was once owned by Coates, the thread makers.

The intention was to get away, somewhat, from the sometimes frantic situation in a 'High Street' type shop and have a more relaxed atmosphere where the fewer but more mature visiting customers can browse among our models, 'play' with the digital layout and have a coffee.

Alan Murray, who managed the shop under Ken from 2000, took over the business to allow Jeanette to retire.

MacKay Models now specialises in DCC and Continental model railways  especially Roco. Lenz DCC is distributed by us to an ever growing number of traders in the UK.
As well as Roco we cover Fleischmann and Brawa.  While we hold a very comprehensive range of Roco much of  the other brands we get in response to customer orders.  We are now also stocking Jouef, Lima and Rivarossi.  Due to customer demand we have also started to stock British model railways and have a range of Hornby and Bachmann locos that have been fitted with decoders in stock now.

Alan Murray now runs the business and deals with customer orders both trade and retail. Stan Kerr and Tom Johnston answer technical queries on 0141 849 0733 and carry out decoder fitting, testing and repairs.  We are open to customers Tuesday-Friday 10.00am -4pm and 10.00am - 1.00pm on Saturdays.

Recently and exceptionally, we were embarrassed to have 3 customers arriving at the same time to see our digital layout so it would really be helpful if you contact us before coming to see Digital in action, this gives us a chance to give you our undivided attention and ensures you get the best of service.  Phone, email or fax us. Customers who just want to browse the Roco, Fleischmann etc an appointment are always welcome.

We have a World-Wide Mail Order service that has been in operation for more years than we care to remember. The countries we send most models to, in very roughly the order of volume are; UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, United States, Thailand, Japan, South America, Recently we have noticed more business from Europe but mainly from the outlying parts such as Finland, Greece, Portugal. We still await an order from Antarctica to complete all the Continents.
